Happy Saturday night to you out there on the internets. 😉 Tonight I’m sharing this cute scarf that I had made as one of my handmade holiday gifts for the family.
I adapted itfrom a cute simple lace Ravelry pattern found here!
I wanted something you could just pull over your head and be cozy so I adapted the pattern to fit!
Adapted pattern: Zig Zag Lace Knit Infinity Scarf
Also found here on my Ravelry page
Yarn: For this project I used 210 yards (1 skein) of Malabrigo Merino Worsted Yarn in color: Ravelry Red . You could use 210 yards of any worsted weight yarn!
Knitting Needles: (I used 4.5mm 28” circular knitting needles and cast on enough for the stitches to easily join end to end. Increase by multiples of 5 for your needles if they differ. If doing more than 130 stitches make sure to keep an eye on how much yarn you have left near the end (you want enough left for the end ribbing!)
Yarn / Tapestry Needle: For weaving in ends.
The abbreviations used in this pattern are:
K – knit
P – purl
YO – yarn over (increase)
SKP – Slip, Knit, Pass slipped stitch over – slip the first stitch knitwise, knit the next stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch to drop it. (decrease)
K2tog – knit two together (decrease)
Cast on: You need a multiple of five for the pattern. Keep that in mind if you need to make it longer/ shorter. You also want the stitches to join relaxed and not stretched.
Cast on 131stitches, join to knit in the round (make sure your stitches are not twisted!) , total 130 workable stitches.
I liked a simple rib pattern at the top and bottom to keep the scarf from curling, so after joining to knit in the round, I started & ended with 4 rows of ribbing.
Rows 1 – 4 (k2 , p2)
Round 5: K2, (YO, SKP, k3); repeat ( ) around, ending with k1 instead of k3.
Round 6 and all even rounds of pattern: K all.
Round 7: (K3, YO, SKP); rep ( ) around.
Round 9: K1, (K2tog, YO, K3); rep ( ) around, ending with K2 instead of K3.
Round 11: (K2tog, YO, K3); rep ( ) around.
Work no more than 7 repeats of the pattern ( this should leave you enough yarn to do the end ribbing)
Last 4 Rows: (k2 , p2) around.
When binding off I used a stretchy bind off found here: http://youtu.be/cGHItYwr1us
Hope you all like it!
